Night Guards

If you have ever woken up with a sore jaw, tooth pain or a headache, you know the struggle of sleep bruxism (teeth grinding or clenching). Since the grinding happens in your sleep, it can be very difficult to stop. Forest Lane Dental is pleased to offer custom-made night guards to help with your bruxism. These plastic, removable mouth guards are custom designed for each patient, and are worn over the upper and lower teeth to realign the jaw and prevent it from clicking. This, in turn, can help alleviate the symptoms of bruxism. Night guards also provide the wearer with a comfortable cushion between the upper and lower rows of teeth to protect the teeth from the physical wear and tear that often results from grinding so that rather than wearing down the enamel, you bite against the appliance and wear the appliance down instead. It is important to keep in mind that night guards are not a cure for a grinding habit. As long as the grinding continues, some symptoms such as jaw pain may not change.

Sports Guards

From chipped and broken teeth to injuries to the tongue, lips, face or jaw, oral injuries are a common occurrence in sports and physical activities, and quite easy to sustain. Forest Lane Dental is pleased to offer custom-made sports guards designed just for you! A sports guard is a dental appliance that is worn over teeth in order to protect the teeth and mouth from injuries sustained to the face and head during high impact activities. If you are participating in a contact sport that involves body contact, falls or flying equipment, you should consider a sports guard. The most effective and best fitting sports guards are custom-made by your dentist to specifically fit your mouth and teeth. Because they are made specifically for you, they are more comfortable and easier to wear compared to the over-the-counter options available. A properly fitted sports guard can effectively absorb the shock of impacts and protect your teeth from potential chips, cracks, fractures, knockouts, and damage. Keep in mind that it is particularly important for those who wear braces or other fixed orthodontic appliances to wear a sports guard, because any impact to the mouth can damage the brackets and wires on your braces in addition to adding tears and cuts to the soft tissue inside of the mouth.

If you believe you might benefit from a custom night guard or sports guard, or you have any questions at all about custom-made night guards or sports guards, please do not hesitate to contact our dedicated Forest Lane Dental team at (403) 248-2280 and we will be happy to help!
